'Kwakkenbos has been around for over 80 years and is a modern, mid-sized construction company with 100 employees,' says Claudia Kwakkenbos, CFO. 'We don’t just build homes, apartments, and commercial projects—we also renovate, refurbish, and improve sustainability in existing buildings.'
As CFO, Claudia is also responsible for cybersecurity. When she joined the company in 2016, she focused on automation. 'That quickly created the need for support in improving our cybersecurity,' she explains. 'Through ABN AMRO, I got in touch with MMOX. Since then, we have made significant progress together.'
'Cybersecurity is not a cost—it's an investment that pays off'
'The construction industry is rapidly digitalizing,' Claudia continues. 'If you haven't invested in it yet, it will be difficult to keep up. That’s why cybersecurity is such a crucial topic.'
At Kwakkenbos, they don’t see cybersecurity as just an expense but as something that delivers real value. 'Many construction companies don’t recognize the importance of these investments because they are used to tangible results, like a finished building. Cybersecurity is less visible—but no less essential.'
'Alongside the specialists guiding us to become more resilient step by step, we also have a Cyber Sensor. It gives us extra peace of mind,' says Claudia. 'I see it as an alarm system, just like the one I have for my home. Through a dashboard, we can monitor cyber threats in real-time. It immediately blocks attacks and detects suspicious activity.'
Kwakkenbos is actively working towards compliance with the new NIS2 regulations. 'MMOX is guiding us through this process and helping us take the right measures in a practical way,' Claudia explains. 'I always say: "The biggest cyber risk sits between the screen and the chair." That’s why I appreciate that MMOX also focuses on raising awareness among our employees—whether through lunch sessions or hands-on exercises on how to respond to a cyber incident. The broad scope of their services makes MMOX a great partner for us.'
