Recent research by ABN AMRO reveals that cybercrime is becoming an increasing threat to Dutch businesses. In 2023, three out of four companies experienced cyberattacks, with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) being the most affected.

Alarmingly, while 80% of SMEs have fallen victim to cybercrime, only 29% recognize it as a significant risk. This underestimation is concerning, especially given the rise in phishing attacks and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) by cybercriminals to refine their techniques. Phishing remains the most common attack method, affecting 66% of businesses. Additionally, cybercriminals are leveraging AI-powered tactics, leading to increasingly sophisticated attacks.

MMOX stresses the urgent need for businesses to rethink their cybersecurity strategies. With the upcoming NIS2 regulations in Europe, organizations will be required to assess cyber risks not just internally, but also across their supply chains. Despite this looming obligation, awareness remains low.
